JACKSON, Miss. – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball put the clamps on high-scoring Belhaven in a 76-62 American Southwest Conference win on Thursday evening at Rugg Gym in Jackson, Miss.

The Blazers came into the game averaging 82.6 points per game and the Cowboys held them 20 points under their average on the year in the contest. HSU held them to 37.5 percent shooting. The Cowboys had a 41-20 advantage on the boards.

HSU also had a hot night on the offensive end, shooting 55.6 percent from the floor.

Neither team led by more than six points in a tightly contested first half and the teams went to the locker room tied at 33.

HSU came out strong and a 13-5 run out of halftime gave it a 46-38 lead with 15:04 to play. HSU never trailed the rest of the way. A 9-0 run pushed the Cowboy advantage to 67-51 with 5:47 to play.

Kyle Brennon led the Cowboys with 24 points and Steven Quinn added 20. Neal Chambliss had 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Luke Couch led Belhaven with 18 points and Matthew McMillan scored 14.

The Cowboys are now 10-5 on the year and 5-3 in conference play. Belhaven is 3-6 overall and 2-5 in league play. HSU will play at Louisiana College at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
