Box Score PINEVILLE, La. – Kannon Jones came off the bench for a career-best 22 points and Trey Wooldridge had a huge block in the closing seconds as Hardin-Simmons defeated Louisiana College 71-68 in American Southwest Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Pineville, La.
LC jumped out to an early 13-5 lead, before the Cowboys went on a 14-5 run to take a 19-18 lead with 3:43 to play in the first half. LC led 30-25 at halftime.
Kyle Brennon hit a jumper then Steven Quinn, Chase Cobb and Brennon hit back-to-back 3-pointers to start the half. HSU started the half on a 20-4 run and took a 45-34 lead with 13:17 to play.
The Wildcats made a late push and cut the Cowboy lead to 69-68 with 1:14 to play and then Donald Calais had a blocked shot to give LC the ball with a chance to take to the lead but Wooldridge blocked Calais' lay-up and then the Wildcats missed a couple of desperation 3-point attempts.
Jones' 22 points led four HSU players in double figures. Brennon added 15 points, Quinn had 14 and Cobb added 11.
K.J. Bilbo hit six 3-pointers and scored 23 points off the bench to pace LC. Kae'ron Baker scored 15 points and Galen Smith added 12.
HSU is now 11-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play and Louisiana College is now 5-4 all of which have been in ASC play. The Cowboys return home for six straight games in Abilene to close the regular season.
