MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped both games of an American Southwest Conference doubleheader at the No. 1 ranked ETBU Tigers on Friday.

The Tigers have held the title of best in the land for a few weeks now, and they showed off in game one, handling the Cowgirls 12-0.

Preslye Cox started for ETBU and had the win. Hannah Kelley wrapped up the game for the Tigers. Haven Williams pitched for the Cowgirls and had the loss.

Game two got off to a fast start for the Cowgirls with a Kate Tovar solo homerun in the first inning. The Tigers would tie the game at 1-1 in the second.

The Cowgirls took the lead in the fourth 2-1 on an error and then freshman Aubrianna Salazar launched her first college homer straight out of center for a Cowgirl grand slam to make it 6-1 Cowgirls.

The ETBU Tiger battled to tie the game scoring three in the sixth and two runs in the seventh to head to the eighth inning. The Cowgirls failed to score in the eighth, and ETBU survived the scare from Hardin-Simmons with a walk-off single from Tristen Maddox to win 7-6 and remain unbeaten.

Salazar led the Cowgirls with four RBIs on the grand slam and Tovar had two hits including the homerun.

Kaylen Washington pitched through to the bitter end and had the loss in seven and a third innings of work.

Ashley Croft started for ETBU and Kelley relieved her and got the win with seven strikeouts in four innings of work.

The Cowgirls fall to 4-10 and 0-5 in the ASC. ETBU moves to 11-0 and 7-0 after escaping the upset. The series will wrap up tomorrow in Marshall starting at 12 noon.
