Box Score

MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team went ten innings to hand the No. 1 ranked ETBU Tigers their first loss of the season 7-6 in American Southwest Conference play on Saturday.

Kate Tovar extended the Cowgirl lead 2-0 driving in Mason McCord with a single in the fifth. ETBU rallied in the bottom of the sixth to score three, but Katie Marshall saved three runs for the Cowgirls by robbing a would-be grand slam home run over the wall in left to hold the Tigers to a 3-2 lead.

Peyton Newman drove in the Cowgirls' game-saving run to tie the Tigers at 3-3 in the seventh. The eighth and ninth innings of extra softball went scoreless.

Sarah Diessner singled to score the fourth Cowgirl run in the top of the tenth. Washington had the biggest moment of the night for Hardin-Simmons, doubling home three runs in the tenth to make it 7-3 Cowgirls.

ETBU would not go down without a fight and led off with a two-run homerun in the tenth inning, scoring the international runner at second base.

The Tigers scratched in another run, but the Cowgirls and pitcher Washington got three straight outs with the tying run on second to stun the No. 1 ranked ETBU Tigers 7-6 after ten innings in Marshall.

The Tigers came into the day 12-0 and 8-0 in the ASC, having bested the Cowgirls twice on Friday night. The Cowgirl win snapped a 27-game win streak for ETBU dating back to last year during the unfinished season.

Washington finished with ten innings pitched and only five earned runs allowed getting the Cowgirl win. She also had two hits including the big three-RBI double in the tenth inning.

Cox started for ETBU and went over four innings. Savannah Buhl came in for just under three and Hannah Kelley finished and had the loss for the Tigers throwing the final three innings.

McCord had three hits and a walk with a run scored to lead the Cowgirls and Washington led the team with her three RBIs.

The Cowgirl softball team improves to 5-11 and 1-5 in conference play while ETBU falls to 12-1 and 8-1 in the ASC. The Cowgirls will return home to host LeTourneau for a three-game ASC series starting on Friday at Ellis Field at 6 p.m.
