ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team won both games of a double header against LeTourneau on Saturday to finish the three-game sweep in American Southwest Conference play.

The Cowgirls were tied at 2-2 in game one in the final inning, and Mason McCord reached first on an error. Ashley Easley came in to run for McCord and stole second, then advanced to third on a bad throw.

With the game-winning run on third and nobody out, the Yellowjackets opted to intentionally walk the next two batters Kate Tovar and Karis Hessert to load the bases, hoping for a force out at home.

Peyton Newman came up to bat for the Cowgirls and won the game for the Cowgirls with a walk off single up the middle to score Easley, making the final score 3-2 HSU.

Kaylen Washington pitched game one and had one earned run and four hits allowed in the win with four strikeouts. Hannah Welch had the loss for LeTourneau.

Newman and Brittanie Henry each had two hits and an RBI for the Cowgirls. Aubrianna Salazar had the first Cowgirl RBI in the second inning.

Salazar pitched for the Cowgirls to start game two. She went six innings with three strikeouts and one run allowed to get the win. Kelly Shackelford came in for the seventh inning and got the save.

Welch had the loss for LeTourneau, and Bailey Richie totaled eight strikeouts in relief work.

Tovar and Newman both singled home a run in the first inning and Tovar would score on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.

The Yellowjackets got one back in the sixth, but the Cowgirls answered with a run to match and held off LeTourneau, winning 4-1 in game two.

McCord and Newman each had two hits for the Cowgirls, McCord with a triple. Newman and Tovar both had RBIs in the Cowgirl win.

The Cowgirls improve to 8-11 and 4-5 in the ASC with the sweep of LeTourneau. The Yellowjackets fall to 5-9 and 4-8 in the conference. The Cowgirls will be on the road this Thursday night at Concordia Texas in Round Rock starting at 4 p.m.
