Box Score 2 ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team won both games of a double header against Jarvis Christian College on Friday afternoon at Ellis Field in the Cowgirl home opener.
The Cowgirls won game one 10-1 in five innings and game two 10-2, also in five innings.
Kate Tovar opened the scoring in the first inning of game one with a solo shot off the scoreboard. The Bulldogs tied it at one in the second, but the Cowgirls poured on the runs in the third and fifth innings to get the 10-1 victory.
Karis Hessert had three hits including a double in game one. Mason McCord led the Cowgirls with three RBIs on a three-run homer in the fifth to force the run rule. Brittanie Henry and Aubrianna Salazar also had two RBIs each for the Cowgirls.
Haven Williams started at pitcher in game one for HSU. She threw five strikeouts in the five innings and didn't allow an earned run in the win.
The Cowgirls started out down 2-0 to the Bulldogs in the fourth inning of game two. HSU scored five in the fourth and five more in the fifth to win by a final of 10-2.
Salazar pitched game two and had seven strikeouts for the Cowgirls and only gave up two runs in the win.
McCord and Tovar continued their great day of hitting with two hits apiece in game two, each with a homerun. McCord finished with two RBIs and Tovar had three to lead the team.
Sarah Diessner hit a triple off the wall in center to score two and Salazar finished the game with a bases-clearing double to score three in the fifth inning.
The Cowgirls move to 2-5 on the season and will be back to play Jarvis Christian one more game tomorrow at Ellis Field starting at 12 noon.
