Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball fell 6-5 to the Jarvis Christian Bulldogs on Saturday at Ellis Field in non-conference play.
The Cowgirls led 3-0 before the Bulldogs put up four runs in the fourth inning. Jarvis got the lead up to 6-3 in the final inning, and the Cowgirl comeback effort came up one short, losing 6-5.
The Cowgirls had eight hits and a couple errors to go with their five runs. Jarvis had nine hits and a pair of errors as well.
Kaylen Washington started for the Cowgirls and had five strikeouts in four innings in the loss. Brookelyn Casper came in to finish the game and had two strikeouts.
Ally Gonzales started for the Bulldogs and went six and a third innings and had two strikeouts with only two earned runs allowed in the win. Alexandra Montalbo came in to close the game and got the save.
Sarah Diessner led the Cowgirls with three hits on the night. Aubrianna Salazar had a pair of hits and Mason McCord had an RBI double in the seventh for Hardin-Simmons.
Sierra Wooley had three hits including a double to lead the Bulldogs.
The Cowgirls fall to 2-6 on the season after Saturday. The HSU softball team will be back next weejend to host its spring break tournament along with McMurry. The Cowgirls will play next at Ellis Field on Wednesday against St. Thomas starting at 12 noon.
