Box Score 2 AUSTIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team split an American Southwest Conference doubleheader at Concordia on Thursday evening, falling 3-0 in the first game and winning 7-4 in the second game.
Game 1
Concordia 3, Hardin-Simmons 0
The Tornados scored a pair of runs in the first inning on an Erica Riley RBI single and scored the second run on a throwing error. Ashley Hallmark had an RBI single in the sixth inning for Concordia.
Four different Cowgirls had one hit each. Emily Moses had three of the seven Concordia hits.
Kaylen Washington went the distance for the Cowgirls in the circle and allowed just two earned runs on seven hits to fall to 3-6 on the year. Bailey Tisdale scattered four hits in the complete-game win to improve to 8-4 on the year.
Game 2
Hardin-Simmons 7, Concordia 4
In the nightcap, the Cowgirls scratched a run in the first inning on a Peyton Newman RBI single up the middle. The Tornados scored a run in the bottom of the first inning on a fielder's choice.
The Cowgirls regained the lead on a Mason McCord RBI single in the third inning and Concordia tied it in the bottom of the inning with an Emily Moses RBI single.
Brittanie Henry had an RBI single in the fourth bringing home Sarah Polanco to give HSU the lead for good. Karis Hessert had a solo home run in the fifth, McCord had a two-run double in the sixth and Tovar added an RBI single in the sixth. Concordia scored on a pair of sacrifice flies in the bottom of the sixth to cut it to 7-4.
Aubrianna Salazar worked three innings to start the game in the circle and allowed two runs on four hits. Haven Williams earned the win with four innings of work to improve to 2-4 on the year. She allowed three hits and two unearned runs, while striking out two. Simone Langland took the loss allowing six runs in five and one-third innings to fall to 6-4 on the year.
McCord had three hits and drove in three runs and Henry added three hits as well for the Cowgirls. Megan Hooper had two of the seven Concordia hits.
HSU is now 9-12 on the year and 5-6 in conference play. Concordia is 15-9 overall and 9-5 in ASC action. The two teams will battle for the series tomorrow on Friday at noon.
