Box Score BROWNWOOD, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team lost 75-60 to Howard Payne on Thursday evening in American Southwest Conference action at the Brownwood Coliseum.
In the first half, the teams had 12 lead changes and seven ties and the Cowboys led 35-34 at halftime. Both teams shot 13-of-31 from the field and both teams made three 3-pointers in the first half.
The Cowboys scored eight of the first nine points of the second half to open a 42-35 lead in the opening minutes of the second half. HSU led 47-40 when the Yellow Jackets caught fire.
Howard Payne answered with a 22-3 run over the next 6:49 as HPU went 8-of-10 in the run and 4-for-4 from 3-point range to open a 63-50 lead.
Chase Cobb and Kaleb Favors had 12 points each to pace the Cowboys and Aidan Walsh added 11. Fredrick Watts led the Jackets with 20 points and 14 rebounds.
HSU is now 10-3 on the year and 6-2 in league play. HPU is now 4-11 overall and 3-7 in conference action. The Cowboys return to action on Saturday at Sul Ross State.
