Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Steven Quinn scored a career-high 31 points to fuel Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team to an 84-75 win over East Texas Baptist in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex on Thursday evening.
HSU was without three regulars from its rotation and four players played at least 37 minutes as HSU snapped its three-game losing streak.
ETBU scored the first basket of the game and Will Bartoszek answered with a 3-pointer and the Cowboys never trailed the rest of the first half. HSU had a 15-5 run to open a 15-7 lead with 14:02 to play in the first half. HSU pushed the lead out to 28-15 with 9:17 to play in the half. The Tigers chipped away to cut the deficit to 37-32 at halftime.
In the second half, ETBU was able to stay close and finally took its first lead at the 12:18 mark at 49-47. The Cowboys were able to close out the game from there building the lead back to double figures. HSU converted down the stretch at the foul line hitting 21-of-24 in the second half, including 12-of-12 by Steven Quinn.
HSU shot 56.5 percent in the game and hit 8-of-13 from 3-point range. HSU also outrebounded the Tigers 33-29.
Quinn led the Cowboys with a career-best 31 points. It was the fourth 30-point game of his career and second against ETBU. Aidan Walsh had 16 points, Will Bartoszek scored 13 with nine rebounds and Chase Cobb added 11.
Charlie Cochran led the Tigers with 21 points off the bench. Darry Moore had 14 points and Kevin Charles and Aaron Gregg each scored 13 points.
The Cowboys are now 11-4 overall and 7-3 in league play. ETBU fell to 8-8 overall and 6-5 in conference action.
HSU's game on Saturday with Belhaven has been canceled by COVID issues with the Blazers. HSU will play at Mary Hardin-Baylor next Thursday.
