Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team clinched a home playoff game with a 109-92 American Southwest Conference win over Concordia on Thursday evening at the Mabee Complex.
The Cowboys and Tornados will have to turn around and play each other again on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Mabee Complex as the teams are locked in as the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds in the ASC tournament.
HSU jumped out to a 15-5 lead in the first four minutes of the game. HSU continued to build on the lead in the first half and led 62-38 at halftime.
The Cowboys pushed the lead out to as many as 29 points. Concordia was able to cut the deficit to 11 at one point but HSU finished it off with a 19-of-22 performance at the free throw line in the second half.
Austin Brewer had 23 points and 12 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season. Jason Justice and Will Bartoszek had 18 points each. Bartoszek added 11 rebounds for his third-straight double-double and eighth on the season. Steven Quinn added 16 points, Jared Bomer had 12 and Callaway Dykes scored 10.
The Cowboys shot 56.5 percent in the contest and held the Tornados to 39.4 percent shooting. HSU outrebounded the Tornados 47-32. HSU outscored the Tornados 54-38 in the point.
HSU is now 17-7 on the year and 12-5 in conference play. Concordia fell to 13-10 overall and 10-7 in ASC play.
The Cowboys will close the regular season on Saturday with a 3 p.m. game against Mary Hardin-Baylor. HSU will honor its three seniors.
