NIL?
The NCAA has passed legislation that allows current student-athletes to profit off their name, image and likeness (NIL). This ability to earn compensation was previously impermissible under NCAA by-laws.

What Does This Mean?
A NIL activity includes any situation in which a student-athlete's name, image, likeness, or voice is used for promotional purposes by a non-institutional entity, including the individual student-athlete, a commercial entity, or a noninstitutional nonprofit or charitable entity. While such activities may provide compensation for a student-athlete, those activities that do not provide compensation are also covered under this policy. Student-athletes' use and monetization of their name, image and likeness may involve a wide range of activities, including but not limited to:
  • Traditional commercials or advertisements for products or services,
  • Student-athletes developing and promoting their own business
  • Personal appearances
  • Student-athletes running their own camps or clinics
  • Providing private lessons (and using their name or image to promote those lessons)
  • Sponsored social media posts
  • Autograph sessions
Opendorse
Hardin-Simmons' Board of Trustees have made a huge commitment by partnering with Opendorse to provide NIL support to our student-athletes free of charge. The partnership provides every HSU student-athlete with full access to the company's all-in-one NIL platform and provides student-athletes and staff with Opendorse's best-in-class compliance, content and education tools.
  • Compliance: upon completing NIL deals, athletes can automatically disclose activity details to their institution to ensure eligibility.
  • Content: athletes receive on-demand access to share photos and videos from games, practice and more. Athletes can also receive content suggestions from their teams, encouraging fan engagement, fundraising initiatives, ticket sales and more.
  • Education: athletes receive in-person and on-demand virtual education sessions from industry leaders at companies including Meta, Overtime, Players' Tribune, Opendorse and more.
  • Through the partnership, current and alumni HSU student-athletes can be found on the HSU Opendorse Marketplace.
