Cowgirls Continue To Roll

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team continued its roll with its ninth straight win as the Cowgirls defeated Concordia (Texas) 81-56 in American Southwest Conference West Division action, Saturday at the Mabee Complex.

HSU has won eight straight and will get the chance to avenge one if its losses on the year when it hosts McMurry on Monday at 5:30 p.m. HSU is now 12-2 on the year and 9-1 in conference action. Concordia fell to 8-6 overall and 6-4 in conference action.

The Cowgirls continued their dominance on the defensive end, limiting Concordia to 32.7 percent shooting and HSU won the battle of the boards 51-27, 25 of which came on the offensive end.

Midway through the first half the Cowgirls went on a 10-2 run to push out to a 21-10 lead at the 10:14 mark. Concordia made a run of its own and cut the deficit to 29-28 at 3:34. HSU had another10-2 run to close the first half and to take a 39-30 lead into the halftime locker room.

The Cowgirls continued the run out of the break and it pushed out to a 28-5 run that ended on a Kristen Harris layup at the 12:40 mark and gave HSU a 57-33 lead. Concordia never got closer than 15 the rest of the game.

Once again it was a balanced attack for the Cowgirls five players reaching double figures. Kristen Harris led the way with 13 points and nine rebounds. Rachel Cisneroz and Ashley Allen each had 12 points and Lindsey Newcombe and Bo Warm each added 10 points. Newcombe hauled in 15 rebounds.

Concordia was led by Whitney Clancy's 12 points and six other players scored at least six points.
