BROWNWOOD, Texas -
Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped a doubleheader,3-2 and 2-0, to Howard Payne in American Southwest Conference action on Friday afternoon.
In the first game, Howard Payne went ahead 3-2 in the third inning on a two-run triple by Lauren Vesely and a double by Ashley Silva.
The Cowgirls answered with two runs in the fourth. Sadye Hill hit her ninth home run of the season to lead off the inning and Laura Rawlings had an RBI single.
In the nightcap, Cory Lee hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning and starter Kate McLaughlin made it hold up as she tossed a two-hitter. The Cowgirls loaded the bases in the seventh inning, but Melissa Hall came on for the save.
Laura Rawlings (11-7) was the hard luck loser in both games in the circle for the Cowgirls. She threw all 12 innings and allowed just five runs in the two games.
The Cowgirls are now 15-13 on the year and 9-9 in league play. Howard Payne improved to 22-12 and 13-5 in league play.
