AUSTIN, Texas — Hardin-Simmons'
women's basketball team had a strong second half to pick up
its seventh straight win in a 85-76 victory over Concordia,
Thursday night at the new Concordia Fieldhouse in American
Southwest Conference action.
The Cowgirls trailed 36-35 at halftime, but in the second half
they received a huge effort from the Newcombe sisters. Angela
Newcombe had career bests with 12 points and nine rebounds and
Lindsey Newcombe had 23 points and 18 rebounds (13 in the second
half).
Concordia led 42-40 with 16:01 to play, but the Cowgirls responded
with a 14-4 to make it 54-46 with 11:09 to play. Bo Warm capped the
run with back-to-back jumpers. It was 61-49, before Concordia went
on a 15-4 run to cut the deficit to 65-64 with 5:39 to play.
HSU then came right back and put the finishing kick on the
Tornados. The Cowgirls nine straight points to move the lead to
74-64 with 2:24 to play. After that Concordia went to the foul game
and HSU was able to hold them off at the foul line.
Bo Warm scored 16 points for the Cowgirls and Mollie Brawner had
13. Kassandra Bills had 30 points to pace Concorida.
The Cowgirls moved to 14-3 on the year and to 10-3 in ASC action.
Concordia fell to 7-8 overall and 7-5 in ASC play. HSU will play at
Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday at 1 p.m.
