CLINTON, Miss. — Hardin-Simmons'
women's basketball team fell behind 8-0 and never recovered
in a 70-58 loss to Mississippi College in the American Southwest
Conference opener for both teams Saturday at the A.E. Wood Coliseum
in Clinton, Miss.
The Cowgirls had 17 first-half turnovers and Mississippi College
turned 21 HSU turnovers into 26 points in the game. HSU eventually
tied the game up at 17 with 8:51 to play in the first half, but MC
closed the half on a 18-5 run.
MC led by as many as 17 points midway through the second half, but
back-to-back 3-pointers by Angela Newcombe cut the deficit to
eight, which is the closest the Cowgirls could narrow the gap.
Jalessa Taylor led four Mississippi College players in double
figures with 20 points. Randa Lee had 14 points, including two late
3-pointers to keep the Cowgirls at bay. Anna Patterson added 13
points and Jennifer Weir had 10.
HSU was led by Lindsey Newcombe, who had 14 points and 12
rebounds. Bo Warm added 11 points and Angela Newcombe added 10.
The Cowgirls (1-2, 0-1 ASC) will play at Louisiana College on
Monday at 5:30 p.m. The game can be heard on
