CLARKSVILLE, Ark. — Carlos Singer scored a
season-high 25 points and Hardin-Simmons held on for a 75-74 win
over the University of the Ozarks in American Southwest Conference
action at the Mabee Gym in Clarksville, Ark.
The win was the 300th in the head coaching career of Craig
Carse.
The Cowboys, like they have done all season long, fell behind
early trailing 22-7 early in the game, but this time the Cowboys
responded and actually took a 40-38 lead into the halftime break
thanks to 11 points by Casey Riddle and nine by Singer.
In the second half, HSU went up by 10 points on back-to-back
3-pointer by Carlos Singer from the same spot in the left corner.
It gave the Cowboys a 59-49 lead with 13:41 to play. Ozarks battled
back and tied the game but never was able to regain the lead.
The game was tied at 67 when John Derr hit a running jumper and
Singer answered with a 3-pointer to give the Cowboys a 72-67 lead
with 2:13 to play. The Cowboys then missed three front ends of
one-and-one's in the final minute to give the Eagles a last
second chance, but Andre Williams' 3-pointer at the buzzer
was long.
Blake Mitchem had 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead Ozarks. He had
17 points in the first half. Williams had 17 points and Josh Odom
and Colby Woolverton each had 12 points.
Singer had 25, Riddle had 17 points and five assists and Zach Rule
had 12 points for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys are now 1-5 on the year and 1-3 in ASC action on the
season. Ozarks fell to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in ASC action. HSU will
play at McMurry on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
