CLARKSVILLE, Ark.— Hardin-Simmons'
women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing skid with
an impressive 79-59 win over the University of the Ozarks in
American Southwest Conference action in Clarksville, Ark., on
Saturday afternoon.
The Cowgirls received big halves from its top two players as
Lindsey Newcombe had 18 points and nine rebounds in the first half
as she helped the Cowgirls push its lead to 38-30 at halftime.
Newcombe then got her fourth foul early in the second half and she
did not return and finished the game with 18 points and 10
rebounds, and senior Bo Warm picked up the slack as she scored 16
of her career-best 28 points in the second half as the Cowgirls
held off the Eagles.
Warm had a career-best six 3-pointers in the game and she also had
six rebounds and four assists. HSU also received some much needed
production in the second half from Halee Edwards, Angela Newcombe
and Kara Looten. All three scored six points in the second
half.
Ozarks pulled the game to three points at 52-49 after Sabrina
Goddard hit four straight free throws after a foul and technical
foul. However, the Cowgirls responded with a 12-2 run and the
Eagles never got the deficit back in single digits.
HSU dominated the Eagles on the board, 54-26. HSU had 24 offensive
rebounds in the game.
Goddard led the Eagles with 26 points and April Young added 16.
The Cowgirls are now 2-4 on the year and 1-3 in ASC action. Ozarks
fell to 1-7 overall and 0-5 in league play.
