Tough Shooting Night Costs Cowgirls Against McMurry

ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team had a rough shooting night and fell to McMurry 71-57 in American Southwest Conference action at Kimbrell Arena.

The Cowgirls shot just 29.7 percent for the game and were 1-15 on 3-pointers. The only made three on the night came from All-American center Lindsey Newcombe. Newcombe was 5-for-5 from the floor and had 14 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks to pace the Cowgirls.

HSU struggled against McMurry's defensive pressure. HSU had 28 turnovers on the night that led to 24 McMurry points.

The Cowgirls never led in the game and trailed 36-22 at halftime. McMurry pushed the lead out to 50-28 with 13:19 to play. HSU battled back down the stretch but could get no closer than 66-57 with 1:12 to play.

McMurry had four players in double figures with Erica Rawls leading the way with 14.

HSU is now 2-5 on the year and 1-4 in ASC play. McMurry improved to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in ASC play. The Cowgirls will be off until Dec. 27 when they play in the Southwestern Tournament.
