GEORGETOWN, Texas — Hardin-Simmons'
women's basketball team had five players score in double
figures as the Cowgirls defeated Pitt.-Greensburg, 79-70, in the
Southwestern Holiday Classic in Georgetown on Monday evening.
Lindsey Newcombe had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the way
for the Cowgirls. Becky Taylor added 14 points and eight
rebounds.
Bo Warm scored 10 of her 13 points in the final minutes of the
game to help the Cowgirls close out the game. She also had four
assists and five rebounds.
Freshman Shelby Calabrese came off the bench for her first
extended playing time of the season and had 12 points, including
eight in the first half of the game. She hit two 3-pointers in the
first half. Jasmine Lewis had 11 points for the Cowgirls.
HSU led by as many as 15 points in the first half and took a 39-30
lead into the halftime locker room. The Cowgirls never trailed but
the game was tied on three occasions in the second half. HSU led
just 67-66 with 2:45 to play but Warm scored back-to-back buckets
and HSU pushed the lead out from there.
The Cowgirls are now 3-5 on the season and will take on
Southwestern at 7 p.m. in the championship game.
