ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's
basketball team received 33 points and 15 rebounds from Lindsey
Newcombe and got back on track with an 89-70 win over Concordia
(Texas), Thursday night in American Southwest Conference at the
Mabee Complex.
The Cowgirls pushed out to an early 27-13 lead with 5:59 to play
in the first half. Each team heated up through the end of the first
half and it was 43-31 at halftime.
HSU came out and put the game away early in the second half with
a 21-6 run to start the half. HSU hit all eight shots in the run
including six 3-pointers, four by Haylee Allen and two by Mollie
Brawner. Newcombe controlled the paint as well. HSU led by as many
28 points in the second half.
Haylee Allen poured in 23 points, Brawner had 13 and Kristen
Harris had 10. Kassandra Bills had 29 points to pace Concordia.
HSU shot 53.2 percent in the game and limited Concordia to 36
percent.
HSU improved to 16-4 with the win and 12-4 in American Southwest
Conference play. Concordia fell to 8-9 overall and 8-7 in league
play. HSU hosts Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday at 1 p.m. for Senior
Day.
