KERRVILLE, Texas — Schreiner's
men's basketball team dominated Hardin-Simmons on the
backboards 43-24 en route to a 83-64 win over the Cowboys Thursday
night in American Southwest Conference action in Kerrville.
The teams went back and forth the first 15 minutes of the first
half and HSU led 28-27 with 4:56 to play in the first half, but
Schreiner closed the half on 13-2 run to take a 40-30 lead into
halftime.
Schreiner came out in the second half and continued the run to 27-9
to take a 57-37 lead with 13:30 to play. HSU battled back to cut it
to 69-60 but Schreiner sealed the game at the free throw line when
HSU went to a foul approach down the stretch. Schreiner hit
11-of-13 in the last 1:41 of the game.
Aaron Thronton led the Cowboys with 12 points, Carlos Singer had 11
and John Derr chipped in 10 for the Cowboys. Aaron Hamilton led
four Schreiner players in double figures with 14 points.
The Cowboys played without head coach Craig Carse who missed the
game with an illness.
HSU fell to 2-11 on the year and 2-7 in ASC action. Schreiner
improved to 3-10 overall and 3-7 in ASC play. The Cowboys play at
Texas Lutheran on Saturday in Seguin.
