ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons used a 20-0 run
early in the second half to put away a pesky Concordia team,
101-74, in American Southwest Conference women's basketball
action at the Mabee Complex on Thursday evening.
That 20-0 run came on the heels of Concordia head coach Steve
Cochran being ejected after two technical fouls. HSU led 63-57 with
13:46 to play when he got the technical fouls. Bo Warm, who led the
Cowgirls with 20 points, hit all four free throws and Coco
Cartwright scored seven straight points to ignite the run.
HSU hit a season-high 12 3-pointers in the game. Alexis Popelar hit
four 3-pointers in the first half for the Cowgirls to help HSU to a
49-43 halftime lead. Cartwright scored 13 points off the bench in
the second half and hit all three of her 3-point attempts.
Three Cowgirls hit double figures in rebounding. Angela Newcombe
set career highs in scoring (16) and rebounding (13). Her sister
Lindsey had 14 points and 14 rebounds and Becky Taylor had seven
points and 10 rebounds.
Brianna Smith led four Concordia players in double figures with 19
points. Margaret Millingadded 16 points and Skylar Lott added
15.
HSU has now won six of its last seven games. The Cowgirls are 10-7
overall and 7-6 in ASC West action. Concordia fell to 7-11 overall
and 5-9 in ASC play. HSU hosts first place Mary Hardin-Baylor on
Saturday at 1 p.m.
