RICHARDSON, Texas — Hardin-Simmons'
women's basketball team fell to 1-5 in American Southwest
Conference action with a 67-52 loss to Texas-Dallas on Monday night
at the UTD Activities Center in Richardson.
The Cowgirls once again with its shooting as they made only 32
percent of its shots (20-62) on the night. UTD jumped out to a
quick 20-8 lead but the Cowgirls quickly cut it to 20-14. After
that UTD went on a 7-0 run to make it 27-14 with 2:33 to play in
the first half. HSU closed the half with a 7-0 run of its own to go
into the locker room down 27-21 at halftime.
UTD led 40-35 with 12:04 to play, and a quick 13-0 run put the game
away for the Comets. Lyndey Smith, who came into the game shooting
16 percent from 3-point range hit back-to-back treys in the run and
also added another bucket.
The Comets pushed the lead to 20 at 56-36 with 8:46 to play on
another Smith 3-pointer. The Cowgirls never got closer than 13
points the rest of the way.
Jasmine Lewis led the Cowgirls with 13 points and Becky Talyor
added 10. Lindsey Newcombe was limited to six points, but did haul
in 18 rebounds. HSU won the battle of the boards 49-32.
Smith and Chelsea Edwards had 15 points each for UTD. Lauren Hale
had 11 points. Edwards added seven rebounds, seven steals and five
assists.
HSU is now 4-6 overall and 1-5 in ASC play. UTD improved to 8-3
overall and 5-1 in ASC action. The Cowgirls will host East Texas
Baptist on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the first home game of the new
year.
