Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Hardin-Simmons had four starters score in double figures and the Cowgirls pulled away from Colorado College for a 79-66 win on Sunday afternoon in Colorado Springs.
The Cowgirls used a 16-2 run from the 7:52 mark to the 3:54 mark of the second half to put the game away. HSU went from a 56-51 lead to a 72-53 lead. In the run, Lindsey Newcombe had eight points and Jasmine Lewis added seven.
Morgan Saul's 3-pointer with 2:45 to play made it 75-57, before CC made a late run to cut the final margin to 79-66.
HSU used a late 8-2 run to end the first half that built a 38-32 halftime lead.
Alexis Popelar led the Cowgirls with 15 points, Lewis and Lindsey Newcombe had 13 points each and Angela Newcombe added 11. Lindsey Newcombe had her second straight double-double to start the season as she collected 12 rebounds.
The Cowgirls shot 46 percent for the game and limited the Tigers to 33 percent shooting. Becky Luetjan led CC with 18 points.
HSU is now 2-0 on the year and the Cowgirls will be off until Saturday when they open American Southwest Conference action at Texas-Tyler at 1 p.m. That game can be heard on www.hsuathletics.com.
