Box Score MARSHALL, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team went on the road to beat East Texas Baptist 78-69 in American Southwest Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Ornelas Gym in Marshall.
The Cowgirls trailed 27-19 toward the end of the first half, but closed the half on a 11-0 run to take the lead. HSU pushed the run to 16-0 and never trailed again.
Alexis Popelar had a huge second half for the Cowgirls as she poured in 24 of her career-best 27 points in the second half. HSU outrebounded ETBU 47-37 and limited the Tigers to 32 percent shooting. The Cowgirls shot 47 percent for the game.
Lindsey Newcombe had 14 points and 17 rebounds for the Cowgirls. Brandace Latin led ETBU with 22 points.
HSU is now 6-1 on the year and 4-1 in ASC action. ETBU fell to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in league action. HSU returns home for a Tuesday game at 5:30 p.m. against crosstown rival McMurry.
