BELTON, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' men's
basketball team had never won a game over Mary Hardin-Baylor in
Belton and after Saturday they still haven't as the Cru beat
the Cowboys for the second time in a week, 96-68, at the Mayborn
Campus Center in Belton.
UMHB took control of the game midway through the first half when
Dean Pele came in and hit four straight 3-pointers and scored 14
points to push a five-point lead to as many as 23 points. UMHB shot
60 percent in the first half and the Cowboys turned the ball over
12 times.
Dean Pele hit seven 3-pointers to pace UMHB with 25 points and
Theo Ard had 22 points and nine rebounds for the Cru.
HSU was led by Carlos Singer who scored 16 points, Ryan Carlson
had a career-best 14 points (13 which came in the first half). John
Derr added 12 points and Casey Riddle had 11.
UMHB shot 56 percent in the game and outrebounded the Cowboys
45-22.
HSU is now 4-16 on the year and 4-13 in ASC action. UMHB improved
to 15-6 overall and to 13-4 in ASC play. The Cowboys return home to
close the season with four games at the Mabee Complex, beginning
with a 7:30 game against Howard Payne on Saturday.
