Box Score SHERMAN, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team earned its first win of the season with an 82-63 win over former American Southwest Conference rival Austin College on Saturday evening at the Hughey Gym in Sherman. 
The Cowgirls trailed 20-16 early, but went on a 15-0 run midway through the first half and never trailed again. Three different Cowgirls had five points each in the run with Jasmine Lewis, Coco Cartwright and Alexi Popelar. HSU would hold a 37-28 lead at halftime.
Austin College eventually cut the deficit to 41-36, but HSU used another run to push it to 49-38. AC cut it again to four at 51-47 then Whitney Enis took over the game. 
Enis hit a 3-pointer on an inbounds play, a turnaround jumper and then back-to-back 3-pointers in less than a four-minute span to help the Cowgirls push out the lead. Enis finished the game with a career-best 24 points, 22 of which came in the second half.
HSU had a much better shooting game than the opener as HSU shot 47.5 percent and hit five 3-pointers. The Cowgirls also forced 24 turnovers from the Kangaroos. 
HSU had a balanced attack behind Enis' 24. Angela Newcombe had 13 points, Poplear 11, Kara Looten 10, Cartwright and Lewis each had nine points.
Christina Kime had 19 points and nine assists for Austin College. AC fell to 0-3 with all three losses to ASC teams. 
The Cowgirls are 1-1 and will be off until next Saturday when they open ASC play at home against Texas-Tyler.
