Box Score 2 LONGVIEW, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' softball team won its first two games of the season by beating Austin College 10-7 and LeTourneau 10-3 in the first day of the LeTourneau Classic on Friday in Longview.
Full stats were unavailable on Friday night, but the Cowgirls rallied from a 7-2 deficit in the first game with a seven-run sixth inning.
Taylor Namey went 3-for-4 in the first game and had a home run. Jodi Hierholzer also had a 3-for-4 game. Sarah Shurbet (1-1) came on in relief for the Cowgirls and pitched four innings to get the win. Leslie Henderson got her first career start for the Cowgirls in the circle and she went two and two-third innings and Katelyn Curry threw one-third of an inning of relief in her first appearance as a Cowgirl.
In the nightcap, HSU busted open a 1-0 game with a grand slam by freshman Megan McCormick in the fourth inning. Namey and Amy Meyer each had home runs for the Cowgirls in the game. Meyer finished the second game 4-for-4 for HSU. McCormick had five RBIs in the win.
Megann Lewis (1-2) went the distance in the circle to pick up the win.
The Cowgirls are now 2-4 on the year and will play the same two teams tomorrow with the AC game being played at 11 a.m. and the LeTourneau game at 1 p.m.
