Box Score 2 LONGVIEW, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday, falling 6-1 to Austin College and 2-1 to LeTourneau in the second day of the LeTourneau Invitational.
In the first game, it was scoreless until AC scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Stefanie Faith had a three-run home run in the inning. HSU scored its only run in the sixth inning when Mackenzie Clay singled and scored on a Kelsey Cogdell RBI double.
Clay and Cogdell had two hits each for the Cowgirls. Megann Lewis took the loss in the circle allowing 10 hits and six runs (two earned) in six and one-third innings. She struck out six batters.
The nightcap was a pitcher's duel. Sarah Shurbet (1-2) scattered seven hits and allowed just two runs for the Cowgirls and Kelsie Stephenson allowed just one run on seven hits to earn the win.
LeTourneau scored its only two runs in the second innings. With two outs, Sara Whitehead had a two-run double.
HSU scored its only run in the third inning on a leadoff home run by Cogdell. Taylor Namey had three hits for the Cowgirls in the second game and Shelby McIntyre and Cogdell had two hits each for HSU.
HSU is now 2-6 on the season and will play in the ASC Crossover Tournament next weekend in Farmer's Branch.
