Box Score 2 ROUND ROCK, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' softball team did not allow a run in an American Southwest Conference doubleheader sweep of Concordia on Friday afternoon at Old Settler's Park in Round Rock winning the first game 7-0 and taking the nightcap 5-0.
In the first game, Taylor Namey hit two home runs and drove in four runs to pace a 12-hit Cowgirl attack. HSU beat Kat Moreno as she allowed seven hits and four runs in four and one-third innings. Teshia Krause allowed three runs in two and two-third innings. Moreno is no 9-6 on the year.
Megann Lewis fired a four-hit shutout for her fourth shutout and 10th complete game of the year. The senior righthander improved to 8-5 on the year. She stuck out six batters in the game.
In the first inning, Blair Wallace walked with two outs and Namey followed with her seventh home run of the season. HSU added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Leslie Henderson scored on an error in the fourth and Shelby McIntyre had an RBI double in the fifth.
HSU blew the game open with three runs in the sixth inning. Amy Meyer had a sacrifice fly and Namey had a two-run home run.
McIntyre, Henderson and Wallace each had two hits for the Cowgirls.
In the nightcap, HSU scored three times in the second inning. Kelsey Cogdell, Jodi Hierholzer and Amy Meyer had consecutive RBI singles.
HSU added two more runs in the fifth on Mac Clay's second home run of the year. Clay led the Cowgirls with two hits.
Sarah Shurbet continued her dominance of the ASC West as she has now pitched 31 innings in league play and allowed just one run. She went the distance again and fired her third shutout and seventh complete-game of the season to improve to 6-5 on the year. She allowed just four hits in the game.
HSU is now 17-11 on the year and 11-1 in ASC West action. Concordia fell to 20-10 overall and 11-5 in league play. HSU hosts Howard Payne in ASC action next weekend in Abilene.
