Box Score MARSHALL, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team picked up a 94-81 American Southwest Conference road win at East Texas Baptist on Thursday night in Ornelas Gym in Marshall.
ETBU jumped to an early 20-12 lead and again led by eight at 32-24 with 6:13 to play in the first half. HSU then hit the Tigers with a 12-0 run to take a 36-32 lead with 3:36 to play in the half.
Kourtney Holyfield and Joanna Daniel each hit 3-pointers in the run and Becca Chagnon started the run with a pair of free throws and ended it with two more. The teams went to the halftime locker room tied at 40.
Holyfield fueled another 12-1 HSU run early in the second half with a pair of 3-pointers to give the Cowgirls control of the game and then Daniel scored eight straight points to make it 61-47. The Tigers were never closer than 10 the rest of the night.
HSU shot 29-of-57 (50.7 percent) in the game and outrebounded ETBU 40-31.
Holyfield led the Cowgirls with 19 points and Daniel added 18. Holyfield hit five 3-pointers and Daniel had four. HSU was 9-for-23 from 3-point range in the game. Shelby Hanna and Taylor Klement had 11 points each for HSU.
Jasmine Davis led ETBU with 17 points, 14 of which came in the first half. April Leonard and Kayla Morgan added 12 points each.
The 94 points were the most since scoring 101 against Concordia in February of 2010.
HSU is now 5-6 on the year and 5-3 in conference play. ETBU fell to 4-7 overall and 2-6 in ASC play. HSU continues its road trip on Saturday at LeTourneau at 1 p.m.
