Cowgirls Drop A Pair To East Texas Baptist

ABILENE, Texas  — Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped a doubleheader to East Texas Baptist, 9-1 and 14-5, on Saturday afternoon at Ellis Field.

The first game counted as a conference game and the second game was a non-conference game. HSU is now 2-4 on the year and 0-3 in league play and ETBU improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in conference action. Both games ended via the run rule in five innings.

Game 1

ETBU scored seven runs in the first two innings. Lacy Liles had a three-run home run in the first and Sara Clements had an RBI single, Jayme Perez an RBI double and Liles an RBI single in the second inning. Clements had a two-run home run in the fourth.

Mac Clay gave the Cowgirls their only run with a solo home run to left in the fourth inning. She had two of the three Cowgirl hits.

Emily Hardaway took the loss in the first game for the Cowboys. She allowed five runs on three hits in an inning and one-third of action. Keeley Lowrance worked the final three and two-third innings and allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out three.

Shelby Parker scattered three hits over five inning and allowed one run while striking out eight to improve to 2-0.  

Game 2

The Cowgirls jumped on the board first in the second game when Kara LeLeux hit a three-run home run.

ETBU received an RBI single by Jessica Delgado in the second inning and erupted for 13 runs on eight hits in the third inning.

Braleigh Middleton had an RBI single for the Cowgirls in the third and HSU scored on a wild pitch in the fifth.

Lara Ammermann took the loss in the circle. She allowed five hits and six runs in two and one-third innings. Hardaway, Lowrance and Carol Swindell worked in relief.

Emily Azin allowed four runs on six hits in three innings to earn the win. Danielle Thomas allowed one run in two innings of relief.

Seven different Cowgirls had one hit. Lacey Lindsey had two hits and drove in three and Mallory Westbrook drove in three and had three hits for ETBU.

HSU will return to conference play next weekend at Texas-Tyler.
