ABILENE, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team won its second straight game with a 70-54 win over East Texas Baptist on Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Complex.

The Cowgirls dominated the game on the defensive end, outrebounding ETBU 57-36 and holding the Tigers to 30.9 percent shooting.  

ETBU had an early 11-10 lead, but the Cowgirls used a 20-2 run over an 8:26 span to take a 30-13 lead with 2:02 to play and the Tigers were never in the game the rest of the way. HSU led 35-18 at halftime.  

The Cowgirls pushed the lead out to as many as 29 in the second half.

Sara Vargas led the Cowgirls with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Joanna Daniel added 10 points.

April Leonard led the Tigers with 21 points and Amanda Rucker added 16 points and Amber Carver chipped in 10.

HSU is now 5-8 on the year and 3-5 in ASC play. ETBU fell to 5-7 overall and 1-7 in league play. HSU plays at Mary Hardin-Baylor on Thursday in Belton.
