Box Score 2 MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped an American Southwest Conference doubleheader to No. 3 East Texas Baptist, falling 11-4 and 11-1 in five innings, on Friday evening in Marshall.
Game 1
ETBU scored a pair of runs in the first inning on a Kaitlyn Hollingshead RBI single and a Lacey Lindsey bases loaded walk. The Cowgirls scored a single run in the second when Braleigh Middleton was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Jayme Perez had an RBI single and Kayla Garcia a two-run double in the second for ETBU and HSU answered with a Lauren Williams RBI double in the third. Mallory Westbrook had a three run home run for ETBU in the third to make it 8-2.
Sarah Truelove hit a two-run double for the Cowgirls off the top of the wall in left field in the fourth inning. ETBU added a single run in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
Middleton and Williams had two hits each for the Cowgirls. Hollingshead had three of ETBU's nine hits.
Lara Ammermann fell to 3-2 with the loss she allowed nine earned runs in five innings of work. Hannah Windham worked a scoreless inning for the Cowgirls. Shelby Parker allowed two earned runs and struck out eight for ETBU.
Game 2
ETBU jumped out to a 9-0 lead after three innings in game two. HSU scored its lone run on a Williams sacrifice fly in the fourth.
Sydnie Darden had two of the three Cowgirl hits. Hollingshead had three of the 11 ETBU hits and drove in three runs.
Genia Jones started in the circle for the Cowgirls and allowed six runs in an inning and a third. Windham and Tori Rodriguez worked in relief for HSU. Kelly Jo McLendon did not allow an earned run and struck out four to earn the win.
The Cowgirls are now 3-3 on the year and 0-2 in league play. It was the season opener for ETBU. The teams will play a single game at 1:30 on Saturday.
