Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team could not overcome 27 turnovers in a 59-51 loss to Concordia on Thursday night in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex.
Concordia turned those 27 HSU turnovers into a 23-6 advantage in points off turnovers.
The game was close throughout the first half and Concordia led 18-16 with 4:23 to play in the half. The Tornados then went on a 10-2 run to take a 28-18 lead. Hsu cut it to 28-22 at halftime.
In the second half, Concordia used another 10-2 run to take a 46-36 lead with 9:31 to play and the Cowgirls were never closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Sara Vargas led the Cowgirls with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Kayla Strobel led three Tornados in double figures with 15 points.
At halftime, former Cowgirl great Kendra Anderson Hassell was inducted into the ASC Hall of Honor.
The Cowgirls are now 12-12 on the year and 10-8 in conference play. Concordia improved to 9-14 overall and 8-11 in ASC action. HSU hosts Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the regular-season finale.
