Box Score 2 ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team handed No. 21 Louisiana College its first American Southwest Conference loss with a 9-3 victory on Saturday afternoon at a soggy Ellis Field.
Game 1
The teams were locked in a pitcher's duel through four innings. HSU starter
Tori Rodriguez did not allow a hit until the fifth inning and Savannah Settle did not allow a hit until a double by
Kara LeLeux in the bottom of the fourth.
LC started the fifth inning with a walk and a pair of infield singles to load the bases with no outs. Heather Scully followed with a single down the left field line and Emorie Nugent and Jordan Mason followed with bases loaded walks. HSU got out of the jam with a double play to end the inning.
The Cowgirls came right back with eight runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth. Lauren Williams singled down the left field line to lead off the inning and Carley Willis singled off the outstretched glove of Settle. Katelyn Joyner moved them up with a sacrifice bunt and Ashley Brown hit a spinner to second that she beat out to load the bases.
Sarah Truelove then singled in two runs with a shot up the middle. Sydney Darden followed with a bunt single to bring in another run. Kara LeLeux added an RBI groundout, Lauren Williams cleared the bases with a three-run double and Joyner drove Williams in with an RBI single.
HSU added a run in the sixth when Truelove led off with a triple and scored on a Darden groundout.
Rodriguez earned the win in the circle. She threw a complete-game and scattered five hits allowing three earned runs in the win. She is now 4-0 on the season. Settle started and allowed eight earned runs in four and two-third innings to take her first loss of the season and fall to 7-1. Darian Thacker allowed one run in relief.
Truelove, Darden and Williams each had two hits for the Cowgirls and Williams drove in three runs. Heather Scully had two of the five Louisiana College hits.
The Cowgirls are now 11-9 overall and 8-8 in ASC play. Louisiana College fell to 12-2 overall and 11-1 in league play.
Game 2
LC scored six first-inning runs and has a 6-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning of the second game of the Saturday doubleheader, but it was postponed by rain. The teams will finish that game and play another starting at noon on Sunday.
