Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team rallied from a 5-1 deficit for an 11-5 win to sweep its American Southwest Conference series with Concordia on Sunday afternoon at Ellis Field.
HSU scored first on a wild pitch in the third inning. Concordia took the lead in the fourth with five runs. Sydney Coffey had an RBI double in the inning a run scored on an error Amanda Sigala-Lopez had an RBi single and Morgan Loredo and Jessica Borrego each had bases loaded walks to drive in a run.
The Cowgirls tied the game in the fourth with four runs. Katelyn Joyner scored on an error, Keagan Jiminez had a two-run double and Sydnie Darden an RBI single.
In the fifth inning, HSU added three more runs. Lauren Williams had an RBI double, Jiminez an RBI groundout and Carol Swindell added an RBI double.
HSU scored three more runs in the sixth inning. HSU scored a run on an error and a passed ball and Williams had an RBI double to left center.
Darden led the 13-hit Cowgirl attack with four hits. Williams, Jiminez and Swindell had two hits each for the Cowgirls. Amber Robinson and Coffey had two hits each for Concordia.
Tori Rodriguez started and went three and two-third innings for the Cowgirls and allowed five runs on five hits. Lara Ammermann worked one-third of inning. Swindell worked two scoreless innings in relief to earn her first win of the season and Kelsey Reichmanis worked the final inning without allowing a run.
Coffey started for Concordia and allowed five runs (one earned) in three and two-third innings. Shelby Burrus allowed six run in the final two and one-third innings to take the loss to fall to 0-3 on the season.
The Cowgirls are now 6-7 on the year and 3-6 in league play. Concordia fell to 4-9 overall and 4-7 in ASC action. HSU's series scheduled for Monday and Tuesday at Texas-Dallas has been pushed back one week to March 16 and 17 at UTD. HSU will next be in action Friday at Ozarks.
