Box Score BROWNWOOD, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team completed a three-game American Southwest Conference sweep of Howard Payne with an 8-3 win on Saturday afternoon at Lady Jacket Field in Brownwood.
Howard Payne scored a run in the first inning. HSU answered with a four-run second inning. Alexis Vines had a two-run double in the inning and Katelyn Joyner added an RBI single and Sarah Truelove an RBI double.
The Cowgirls made it 6-1 with two runs in the third inning on a Keagan Jiminez home run and an RBI single by Vines.
It stayed 6-1 until the seventh when HSU scored a couple of runs. Truelove led off the inning with a home run and Lauren Williams had an RBI single. HPU scored two runs in the seventh and had the bases loaded when the Cowgirls got out of the jam.
Tori Rodriguez improved to 12-2 with the win. Four different Cowgirls worked in the game, including Genia Jones working three scoreless innings. Lara Ammermann worked a scoreless sixth and Kelsey Reichmanis worked in the seventh.
Celese Tirres allowed six runs in three innings to fall to 6-15 on the year.
Truelove, Kara LeLeux and Vines had two hits each for the Cowgirls. Gaby Muniz paced HPU with two hits.
The Cowgirls are now 20-13 on the year and 17-10 in conference play. Howard Payne fell to 10-24 overall and 6-20 in ASC action. HSU hosts Mary Hardin-Baylor next weekend in its final ASC home series.
