Box Score 2 ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team swept an American Southwest Conference doubleheader against LeTourneau winning 12-6 in the first game and 8-3 in the nightcap on Thursday afternoon at Ellis Field.
Game 1
LeTourneau scratched a run in the first inning on a Kelsi Coleman RBI double. Tori Rodriguez pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the inning. HSU responded with a pair of runs in the first on a Keagan Jiminez two-run home run to left center.
HSU took the lead in the third inning when Kara LeLeux had a two-run double to right center and Lauren Williams had an RBI single to right.
LeTourneau scored five times in the top of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. Brianna Williams had the big blow with a pinch-hit grand slam. Megan Hill added an RBI triple later in the inning.
The Cowgirls responded with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. Sarah Truelove gave the Cowgirls the lead with a two-run single. Sydnie Darden had a bunt single for an RBI and Jiminez added her second home run a three-run blast to left center.
Rodriguez worked six innings for the Cowgirls and allowed six runs (three earned), scattering seven hits and striking out four to improve to 9-0 on the year. Genia Jones worked a scoreless seventh in relief.
Jiminez was 4-for-4 with five RBIs in the game and LeLeux added three hits. HSU had 17 hits in the game.
Ashley Burdine started and allowed five runs in two and one-third innings. Kaylee Pritchett worked three and two-third innings and allowed seven runs on 10 hits to fall to 2-7 on the year. Coleman had two of the eight hits for LeTourneau.
Game 2
The Cowgirls used another big inning late in the game to take game two with seven runs in the fifth inning.
Rachel Gauspohl had an RBI single to left in the first inning to give LeTourneau an early lead and HSU answered with a LeLeux RBI single in the bottom of the first. Hill had an RBI double in the fifth inning to give LeTourneau at 2-1 lead.
HSU scored seven runs on five hits and a couple of errors in the fifth. Jiminez drove in the first run with a bases loaded walk. LeLeux added an RBI on a ground ball to the second baseman that was misplayed for a two-base error that allowed two runs to score. Braleigh Middleton had an RBI single and Williams added a two-run double to right. Carley Willis added an RBI double.
Gauspohl added a solo home run in the sixth. She and Hill had three hits each for LeTourneau. Courtney Matulis took the loss to fall to 2-7. She allowed eight runs on eight hits in four innings. Ashley Burdine worked the final two innings.
Willis and Darden led the Cowgirls with two hits each. Rodriguez worked five innings allowing two runs on five hits to improve to 10-0 on the year in the circle. Lara Ammermann worked the final two innings.
HSU has won six straight games and improved to 17-10 on the year and 14-9 in ASC play. LeTourneau fell to 9-15 overall and 4-12 in league play. The teams will play a single game at 11 a.m. on Friday to conclude the series.
