Box Score 2 ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped a doubleheader to Division I Abilene Christian on Wednesday evening at Poly Wells Field, falling 9-1 in five innings in the first game and 9-5 in the nightcap.
Game 1
In the first game Abilene Christian scored a run in the bottom of the first on an Alyson Bishoff RBI double. HSU answered with an RBI single by Ashley Brown in the second inning.
ACU scored four times in the third inning and added two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to setup the run rule.
Tori Rodriguez took the loss to fall to 10-2 on the year. She allowed six earned runs on eight hits. Emily Seidel started and worked into the second inning before being relieved by Julia Montoya. Montoya allowed just one hit over four innings of work to improve to 4-7.
Game 2
ACU took an early 2-0 lead in the first on a RBI triple by Peyton Hedrick and a RBI groundout. It was one of three triples in the game for Hedrick.
HSU tied the game in the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Lauren Williams. ACU answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-2 lead. The Wildcats added single runs in the sixth and seventh inning.
The Cowgirls scored three times in the seventh. Sydnie Darden had an RBI on squeeze bunt and Keagan Jiminez added a two-run home run.
Ashley Brown had three hits for the Cowgirls in the game and Williams and Jiminez added two hits each.
Genia Jones allowed seven runs on five hits in three and two-third innings and fell to 1-2 on the year. Lara Ammermann allowed one earned run in two and one-third innings. Julia Montoya scattered nine hits in the complete-game win.
The Cowgirls fell to 17-13 with the losses and ACU improved to 9-26 on the year. HSU is now off until April 17 when it plays at Howard Payne.
