Box Score JACKSON, Miss. – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team went into the fourth quarter with another led but Belhaven rallied for a 60-52 win on Saturday afternoon in Jackson, Miss.
The two teams played a tightly contested first half that saw neither team lead by more than five points. 
Madison Spears hit a 3-pointer at the end of the half to give the Cowgirls are 26-25 lead at halftime.
HSU pushed the lead out to 38-32 with 4:13 to play in the third quarter and led 39-36 heading into the final period. 
Kayla Brown made it 40-36 with a free throw then Belhaven went on a 12-0 run from the 8:05 mark to the 4:47 mark to take a 48-40 lead. The Cowgirls could never get closer than five the rest of the way.
The Cowgirls struggled shooting in the game hitting just 17-of-63 shots for 27 percent. The Cowgirls were also just 12-of-26 at the free throw line, including 5-of-14 in the deciding fourth quarter.
Brown led the Cowgirls with 11 points and 12 rebounds and 
Kourtney Holyfield also had 11 points.
Sierra Pittman led Belhaven with 23 points. Tamora Shelton added 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Blazers.
HSU fell to 3-10 on the season and the Blazers improved to 4-6. The game does not count in the ASC standings as Belhaven is still a reclassifying member to the ASC.
The Cowgirls return to ASC action on Thursday when they host defending league champion Texas-Dallas at 5:30 p.m.
