Box Score 2 AUSTIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team swept Concordia 2-1 and 5-4 in American Southwest Conference softball action at Concordia on Friday evening.
Game 1
HSU scored a pair of runs in the first inning.
M.J. Ledkins had an RBI single and another run scored on a throwing error. Concordia answered with a run in the bottom of the first. It would be the only runs in the 2-1 HSU win.
Both pitchers settled in and did not allow a run the rest of the way.
Tori Rodriguez went the distance for the Cowgirls and scattered four hits and allowed one run and struck out two to improve to 3-4 on the year. Shelby Burrus allowed nine hits and struck out six for Concordia to take the loss.
Ledkins,
Kara LeLeux and
Sydnie Darden had two hits each for the Cowgirls. Hayley Dennett had two of the four Concordia hits.
Game 2
LeLeux put the Cowgirls on the board in the second inning with a solo home run.
Christa Garcia then took over the Cowgirl offense with a two-run double in the third and a two-run home run in the fifth to make it 5-0.
Concordia scored three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh. The Tornados had a runner it third when
Lara Ammermann got the final out for the complete-game win.
Darden had three hits and Garcia had two and drove in four runs for the Cowgirls.
Ammermann allowed just two earned runs and struck out two while scattering 11 hits to improve to 2-2 on the year.
The Cowgirls snapped a six-game losing streak and evened their record at 6-6. They are now 2-6 in league play. Concordia fell to 4-9 overall and 1-7 in league play. The will play a single game at noon on Saturday.
