PINEVILLE, La. – Hardin-Simmons' softball team split an American Southwest Conference doubleheader on Monday night in Pineville against Louisiana College, winning 5-3 in eight innings in the first game, before falling 3-0 in the finale.

Game 1

Hardin-Simmons rallied for two runs in the seventh inning and added two more in the eighth for the win.

LC scored a run in the first on a Morgan Wampler RBI single and HSU answered back with a Kara LeLeux fielder's choice RBI in the second inning. LC scored on a J Westbrook RBI single in the second and added an Abby Mallett RBI single in the fifth.

LeLeux knotted the game in the seventh with a two-run home run to center field. In the eighth Braleigh Middleton and Sarah Truelove had back-to-back RBI singles.

Truelove had two hits to pace the Cowgirls and Jayde Westbrook and Wampler had two hits each for LC.

Tori Rodriguez improved to 6-5 with the win. She allowed just one earned run while scattering seven hits over eight innings. Savannah Settle fell to 9-1 on the year allowing five runs on six hits.

Game 2

Darian Thacker tossed a two-hit shutout for LC in the second game, while striking out six to improve to 3-2. Lara Ammermann took the loss for HSU allowing two earned runs on eight hits, while striking out four to fall to 2-3 on the year.

Ellen Bairnsfather had an RBI single in the second inning and Mattie Stine had a two-run double in the fifth for the lone scoring plays in the game.

Lauren Williams and Christa Garcia had one hit each for the Cowgirls. Stine had three hits for LC.

HSU is now 9-9 overall and 5-9 in conference play. LC improved to 13-4 overall and 11-3 in conference action. The teams will decide the series with a single game at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
