BROWNWOOD, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons' softball team beat Howard Payne 5-2 in American Southwest Conference action at Lady Jacket Field in Brownwood.

The win gave the Cowgirls a three-game sweep of the Lady Jackets as HSU improved to 12-13 overall and 9-12 in ASC action. Howard Payne fell to 5-21-1 overall and 3-18 in league play.

HSU scored a run in the first inning when Christa Garcia reached on a throwing error that brought home Lauren Williams.

The Cowgirls added four runs in the third inning. M.J. Ledkins scored on a wild pitch and Christa Garcia had a three-run home run.

HPU scored twice in the seventh on a Kayla Boucher home run and a Tonya Thompson RBI single.

Genia Jones picked up the win for the Cowgirls with three scoreless innings to improve to 4-1 on the year. Chloe Brignac worked two scoreless innings and Lara Ammermann worked the final two frames. Audrey Simpson took the loss allowing five runs in two and one-third innings to fall to 5-13.

Williams led the Cowgirls with two hits and Tiffany Hinkelman had two hits to pace the Lady Jackets.

HSU will play a doubleheader at Texas Lutheran on Monday.
