Box Score 2 ABILENE, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons' softball team received a no-hitter from freshman
Lexie Allen in game one to win 1-0 and
Lara Ammermann worked a complete-game in game two in a 6-2 win as the Cowgirls swept Belhaven on Friday afternoon at Ellis Field.
Game 1
Allen struck out eight batters and walked three in the complete-game win. She has allowed just one hit over her last two starts. She improved to 6-8 on the year for the Cowgirls.
The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when
M.J. Ledkins led off with a single up the middle and moved to second on a
Kirsten Kenyon sacrifice bunt.
Lauren Williams then was hit by a pitch and
Mercedes Ruiz singled down the right field line to drove home Ledkins.
Ruiz had three of the seven Cowgirl hits in the game. Taylor Surrento worked six innings for the Blazers and allowed seven hits and one run to take the loss and fall to 5-9 on the year.
Game 2
Lara Ammermann had her best game of the season in the circle for the Cowgirls in game two. She took a shutout into the sixth inning when the Blazers scored a pair of unearned runs but finished the game allowing two unearned runs on three hits to improve to 1-2 on the year.
HSU scored four times in the second inning. Kenyon started a big game with a two-run single.
Breanna Greer had an RBI fielder's choice and another run scored on a throwing error.
Kenyon added to the lead in the fifth with a two-run home run off the scoreboard in left field.
Belhaven scored a run on a wild pitch and another on a Kayley-Morgan Shields RBI single.
Kenyon had three hits and drove in four runs and Ledkins had a pair of hits for the Cowgirls.
The games against Belhaven do not count in the ASC standings as the Blazers are still reclassifying into Division III. HSU is now 14-15 on the year and Belhaven fell to 10-18. They will close the series with a single game at 11 a.m. Saturday.
