Box Score ARLINGTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team overcame a 37-27 halftime deficit to beat Arlington Baptist 66-62 to move to 2-0 on the season.
Arlington Baptist used a cold shooting effort by the Cowgirls to take a 37-27 lead at halftime.
HSU turned up the pressure in the third quarter and used a 13-2 run to take a 40-39 lead and the game was tied at 45 heading to the fourth quarter.
HSU had a 9-0 run early in the fourth quarter to take control at 54-47. ABU cut it to 64-62 late but the Cowgirls did not allow another score in the final 1:52 to earn the win.
Taylor Gaffney led the Cowgirls with 18 points and Karlea Ritchie added 12 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Keilee Burke gave the Cowgirls a spark with nine points and nine rebounds.
Zayda Gonzales led the Patriots (0-3) with 14 points.
The Cowgirls will host Southwestern on Thursday at 5:30 in the home opener.
