ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team fell 4-0 to Howard Payne on Saturday afternoon to drop the American Southwest Conference series with Lady Jackets two games to one.

Shawnece Jones had an RBI single in the third for Howard Payne. Audrey Simpson had an RBI single in the sixth inning and Gabrielle Roque added a bases loaded walk.

Cierra Woodyard had two of the five Cowgirl hits. Gabby Ortega took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits in five and one-third innings. Genia Salazar worked the final inning and two-thirds.

Kendra Evans worked the first five and two-third innings and scattered five hits to improve to 2-5 on the year. Tia Campos recorded the final four outs. Audrey Simpson led HPU with three hits.

HSU is now 1-25 on the year and 1-17 in league play. HPU is 7-16-2 and 4-1 in ASC play. HSU plays at East Texas Baptist next week.
