Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team fell 7-1 to No. 13 East Texas Baptist on Friday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action at Taylor Field in Marshall.
Despite the 1-28 record, the Cowgirls continue to show improvement. This marks the second straight series that the Cowgirls played all three games to the complete seven innings without the run-rule coming into effect.
ETBU scored two runs in the first inning on a MacKenzie Anderson two-run triple and made it 3-0 in the third on an error.
HSU scored its run in the fourth inning when Hillarie Carpenter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Tigers scored three runs in the fourth and another in the fifth.
Gabby Ortega started and allowed six runs on five hits to fall to 0-17 in the circle. Genia Salazar allowed just one hit over the final two and one-third innings. Three different Cowgirls had hits in the game.
Rocki Tello started for ETBU and was relieved by McKayla Hendrix (4-1) who earned the win. Alyssa Bazan worked a scoreless seventh inning.
HSU is 1-28 overall and 1-20 in league play. ETBU improved to 24-4 overall and 17-1 in ASC action. The Cowgirls will host UT-Dallas next weekend.
