Cowgirls Drop Doubleheader

SEGUIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon falling 7-6 in nine innings and 11-2 to Trinity in action at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin. 

Game 1

HSU jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Kenzee Hessert had a sacrifice fly and Camille Scott had an RBI single. Trinity scored a run in the bottom of the first on a Carli Jones double.

Kate Tovar made it 3-1 with an RBI single in the second inning. Trinity tied the game on a two-run single by Jones in the second. Both teams scored a run in the fifth inning on an error.

Katlyn McCoy gave the Cowgirls the lead in the top of the seventh inning with an RBI fielder's choice. Trinity sent the game to extra innings on an error in the seventh.

Kaitlin Ammermann had an RBI single in the ninth for the Cowgirls, but Trinity would win the game in the bottom of the inning on a throwing error on a bunt attempt and later a bases-loaded hit by pitch.

Camille Scott started for the Cowgirls and worked four and one-third innings allowing four runs. Taylor Hinojos and Brookelyn Casper each worked in relief with Casper falling to 1-1 with the loss. Ammermann led the offense with four hits.

Jones had three hits and drove in four runs for Trinity. Allie Holbrook received the win in the circle with one and two-third innings of two-hit ball, allowing just an unearned run.

 

Game 2

Trinity took a 4-0 lead after two innings. Kate Tovar had an RBI single and Kaycee Koiner had a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 4-2 in the third.

The Cowgirls would get no closer and Trinity put the run rule in effect in the sixth inning on a three-run Lauren Rich home run.

Stephanie Pfeifer led the Cowgirls with two hits. Casper took the loss and after working an inning and one-third. Gabby Ortega worked the final four innings.

Devon Potter had two hits and scored three runs for Trinity. Holbrook went the distance allowing five hits and two runs to improve to 3-2.

Both teams are now 3-3 on the year. HSU will return to action on Friday at UT-Tyler.
